There have been phases of automation. An earlier phase (mid 20th c.) saw the elimination of many metal-bashing "male" jobs. AI is set to do the same to "women's work". Receptionists, PAs, Librarians, Admin Staff and HR. These roles were core to the domestic work portfolio of "traditional families" or households with two earning adults … Continue reading Automation

Net Zero Water
OK. I like kicking robber barons when they are down. Water. Critical. Low. Supply. It isn't only polluted rivers, fatbergs in the sewers, and fat cat profits for the bosses. They don't have enough water.
What were we saying?
"Hamas officials" were petty bureaucrats doing municipal jobs.
In which I elaborate a little
The line is: "I'm Spartacus." It is taken up one by one, each repeating the phrase, "I'm Spartacus." (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054331/?ref_=fn_all_ttl_2) Emphasis on the "I". Who is the "We" in "We are all Palestine Action"? Can the speaker's authorial voice speak for me? Could I presume to speak for "We all..."? No, I have to speak for … Continue reading In which I elaborate a little
Or will it…?
Everything turn out all right? Well strip the knickers off my naked emperor... Sometimes I feel we "Boomers" just might have dropped the ball.
With my tin foil hat on
I am suggesting that there are sets of affinities that encourage people and their friends, firms, institutions, communities, governments and enterprises to act in certain ways. Blackboard provided a means towards control of the curriculum should someone want to. The patent application was, possibly, late dot-com chutzpah. Its subsequent deployment strikes me as strategic and in line with neoconservative affinities. Evidently, today in the deep winter of 2025.
Tragedy of the commons
I feel terrible about the state of the USA. It is hard to be gracious in defeat. Bless you, Kamala, you fought well. Magnanimaty from the victor is not relevant. But, I am well fed - for now - and live a privileged life outside the USA. Many less well-fed than I, and living precariously … Continue reading Tragedy of the commons
Biden trying to trump Trump
I suggest Joe Biden is trying to challenge Trump by appealing directly to his own base. I think this is the right move, but he will need a metaphorical - or actual - shovel-full of ees and whiz to make it work. He could actually pick off some of Trump's base with the truth. Kamala … Continue reading Biden trying to trump Trump
Dear BBC
There are 90 or so MPs in the Actually-Principled-Opposition. The Greens overperformed, Laughing Boy, Edddie the-Lib-Dem-Davey has more MPs than Rum Tum Tugger has cats and Farrage hugely underperformed against the Exit Poll. I know - plenty of caveats, but the Greens have as many MPs. Leave the rats fighting in their respective sacks? No, … Continue reading Dear BBC
Rebel, Rebel… but how?
Richard Murphy calls for rebellion: ... we need to rebel against the system of financial capitalism that is constraining the well-being of well over 90 per cent of the people in the world. (https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/05/30/we-are-now-being-exploited/) And, I agree, Richard. But how? I have long thought a rent/mortgage-strike would rattle the powers that be. But easy for me … Continue reading Rebel, Rebel… but how?
