Intentions and actions

How much do I want that stage? I went to the Verve Poetry Festival celebration of spoken word open-mic culture in Birmingham. A showcase event for four crews. I knew – to nod to at least – some on stage and audience. I have performed for some. I put my name in the hat for the six open mic slots. Wasn’t picked. Was getting late. There was the dangle of an open slam at the end for those not picked. I went for the last fast train.  I would love to perform to that audience on that stage. But I didn’t want it enough to stay to the bitter and find a sofa or a bench in the blue-zone at New Street until the 1.45 AM stopping train to Banbury. Could even be after-parties!

But the point must be that I was there at all. There were some brilliant poets speaking. I want to go to Tell it to the Music. I will do a separate post about that

Yes maybe I could have bulled my way through. A younger me might have. But, a year ago on Dartmoor I set an intention to work my poetry. I have a clearer aim for a year from now, to be part of a showcase event
